Menomonie Winter Date Ideas

This Valentine’s Day morning us Stout students woke up to a marvelous fresh blanket of white fluffy snow! While walking to class, I was struck by how beautiful it was, and began to think about all of the romantic winter spots here in our little town of Menomonie, WI.

Jake’s Supper Club

If you have a classic dinner date scenario in mind, I would recommend Jake’s. Located on beautiful Lake Tainter in North Menomonie, its far enough out of town where you feel like you’re going somewhere special, but you don’t have to drive to another city, which is a plus. After dinner, you could go for a walk by the lake. Check out their website for the menu and make a reservation.

Cross Country Skiing on the Red Cedar Trail

If you and you’re date are both outdoorsy, you’re in luck! Menomonie is full of romantic outdoor spots. The Red Cedar Trail is a great spot to start cross country skiing. Rentals are available at Stout Adventures (located at the south end of the UREC building) and only cost $7 a day if you’re a Stout student. Never done this before? No worries. Don’t be afraid to try something for the first time! You’re date will appreciate your confidence. You can also go at night for an added spice of adventure and romance  🙂 You can also ski at Hoffman Hills!

The Red Cedar trail runs right alongside the Red Cedar River! So pretty.

Never underestimate the romance of rental shoes and healthy competition.

Broadway Bowl and the Stout Ale House

1501 North Broadway | Menomonie, WI 54751

It sounds cheesy, but its more important to have a great time getting to know someone rather than an ultra-romantic, crazy-expensive dinner somewhere. Bowling can be a great opportunity for that! Broadway Bowl is connected to the Stout Ale house, so you can grab a bite to eat before or after if you wish. They also have bowling specials, so you can get your fill for super cheap! My favorite nights are Thursdays…50 cent games after 9:30PM! Check out some of their other offers. Cosmic night bowling makes for a great double date!

The Devil’s Punch Bowl

Devils Punch Bowl County Park | Menomonie, WI

If you read my blog regularly, you’ll notice that I talk about the punch bowl ALOT. Well, that’s because ITS FANTASTIC. Seriously, if you’re a Menomonie resident or visitor you have to go at least once. Its a very serene, beautiful spot that is perfect for a date hike. I’ve heard numerous stories of couples getting engaged here or having their photos taken together. Its beautiful. Go hike there. Even if you’re single. GO!

Stout Swing Club

MSC Ballrooms, Wednesdays 8-10:30PM  | Menomonie, WI

So, not all girls like dancing, but being brave enough to ask one of us to dance is admirable. The great thing about the Swing club, is that they will give you a lesson, and then let you cut a rug for the rest of the night. Its free and its a great opportunity to meet other people as well! Check out more about them on OrgSync.

Other ideas

-Rent some snowshoes from Stout Adventures and hike on Lake Menomin at night

-Grab some take out, find a vantage point where you can see the city (like Wakanda Park) and have a picnic

-Make origami hearts! Check out this video for a heart box or this one for an easier heart.

Happy Valentines Day, all 🙂

Don’t forget to tell your single friends how much you love them!
