UW Stout’s outdoor recreation program, Stout Adventures, facilitates numerous trips and clinics during the year ranging from backpacking on the Appalachian Trail to basic bike maintenance. These trips are a great way to meet new people, get out of your comfort zone, and explore new territory. I’ve had the extremely gratifying opportunity and financial wiggle room to join fellow adventurers on an annual Stout Adventures spring break trip for the past three years. As a freshman we paddled 65 miles down the Green River in canoes, exploring the back country of Utah. Last year we ventured down to Florida for a sea kayaking venture into the wilderness of St. Joe’s Peninsula. This year we headed back to Utah to sea kayak into the back country of Lake Powell, camped away from civilization, and finished our journey with a few nights in Arches National Park.
